Someone sent me a link to ChristWire.org with the query, "Is this a joke, or am I just scarred because I know people who actually sort of think like this?" I took a look, posted a link and asked the same thing.

You have to wade through several posts to figure out it is, in fact, a joke. ("Mexican Zombie Flu Raises Black Rapper 'Tupac' From the Dead" finally tipped us off.) Now I have spent many a riotous hour reading LarkNews.com, so I can appreciate Christian satire. My main objection is that Christ Wire is so clumsy and heavy-handed that it's just not funny. (Although another friend said that added to the intrigue, because it's so close to  believable.)

So why am I drawing everyone's attention to non-funny satire? I have a theory that the best satire has a little bit of affection behind it. You love a community that, because it is made up of humans, always fails to live up to its grandiose goals. Satire just slyly points out that discrepancy and so it's a kind of exhortation. That's why people sometimes hate it — it's truer than reality.

Anyway, Christ Wire is like watching a non-funny person with an obnoxious laugh constantly crack himself up. Read Lark News instead.

The Wittenburg Door is another good one, though they don’t update very often anymore.

“I have a theory that the best satire has a little bit of affection behind it.”

Hmmm, yeah, I really like it. Hostile, biting satire usually ends up being shrill and unpalatable. Which is why I think Jon Stewart is usually a bit funnier when he’s making fun of someone like Keith Olbermann rather than Rush Limbaugh.

Satire doesn’t have to be funny at all. I can be offensive and biting – if that’s the author’s intent (I agree Christ Wire isn’t funny). Parody is supposed to make us laugh.

my favorite christian satirical site is http://www.bestchurchofgod.org

and it’s also a weekly sketch show in chicago.

The truly funny part of Christwire.org is people’s reaction to the stories. If you don’t think the average person leaps to conclusion without giving proper consideration, read the comments. Almost without exception, people miss every clue in the stories that scream “satire.” Go back and reread the story with a more open view and you may see what you missed.

They gave a movie review of HP7 part 2 before it came out. >:o

Glad I found this post because while doing research for an article on senior citizens exercising their brains by playing computer games I stumbled across an article on Christwire titled – World Of Warcraft is Evil – Boy Goes Insane After Parents Cancel Account. Being a writer and author many gaming articles as well as an avid player of WoW I simply couldn’t what I was reading. I too like many others figured this site was a complete joke, or a load of seriously sick people.

The best part of not being perfect is simply the joy that it brings to others.

christwire is pretty successful. as you said “You have to wade through several posts to figure out it is, in fact, a joke.” and the person that sent you the link, “Is this a joke, or am I just scarred because I know people who actually sort of think like this?”

The fact that you have such a hard time figuring out whether it is real or not really speaks about the /specific/ demographic they satirize.

    think about it.

Thank you for another fantastic post. The place else may just anybody get that type of information in such an ideal means of writing? I have a presentation subsequent week, and I am on the look for such information.

Yes, According to Wikipedia and several other trustworthy sites, christwire.org is indeed satire. They are making fun of the Christisn ConservatIve type, and mostly give out fake information. For instance, they pretend to hate gay people. (now I know several Christians and they don’t HATE gays at all) so every band that they deem “bad” they change the singers name. For instance Gerard WAY’s name was turned to Gerard GAY. Bert McCrackens name was changed to Bert McCrackhead so on. They are trying to be funny, and I find some of it funny (especially the fact some people consider it a trustworthy site). I hope that cleared it up a little :)

Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite
justification appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to
be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about worries that
they plainly don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the
top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal.
Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
