Does Lil Wayne make you dumb?

Alisa Harris    Mar 07, 2009    3 COMMENTS    SHARE

Guess which music  makes you smart and which makes you dumb. A CalTech grad student, Virgil Griffith, did a study comparing SAT scores to music tastes. The highest-scoring people loved Beethoven (average SAT scores of 1371), and the lowest-scoring (SAT score of 889) loved Lil Wayne. Bands like Radiohead, Counting Crow, and Sufjan Stevens came in next for the high-scoring camp.

Of course, a study like this only proves correlation, not causation. Lil Wayne might not make you dumb ---- you might listen to him because you're already dumb. My guess is that it has more to do with environment than intelligence.

  2. “My guess is that it has more to do with environment than intelligence.” That, Alisa, is what I tried to say but in a lot more words that made me sound like an idiot.
