Some Hong Kong billionaires are building a Biblically-sized ark to make people feel better about being unemployed and hungry. It is 450 feet long, has a rooftop luxury hotel and 67 pairs of animals. Um, WHY are they doing this? The WSJ reports:
"People are experiencing a crisis right now," says Mr. Lu, waving his hand over fiberglass statues of a pair of bears overlooking the South China Sea. "It's possible that this financial tsunami has come at this time to Hong Kong for a reason. And our message is: The doors of the ark are not closed, they're open, and the animals -- representing new life -- are coming out."
This doesn't need a lot of commentary. Just ... really? I can't imagine anything more culturally tone-deaf right now than to ostentatiously expend some of your billions on a luxury hotel to make the poor people feel better.
