We have been doing some substantial behind-the-scenes work to make the Patrol reading experience simpler and more natural. Our previous categorization system was relatively primitive, so most of the reworking has involved improving the way we categorize articles, and thus your ability to locate older content.
We now have a synthesized, site-wide tag system that allows you to browse by sections (ie, Arts, Times) and categories (On Politics, On Music, etc). Click on any tag (seen at the top of every article or the foot of each blog post) to view a list of other pieces filed under that category.
You can now browse the entire site by author, simply by clicking on an author's byline on any article or post.
Our new Blogs home page gives an overview of the last five posts on every Patrol blog.
We redesigned the interface for all of our blogs, giving them a cleaner, fresher look with fewer lines and larger text and headlines. The byline of each post now appears at the top, along with the number of comments.
A convenient "share" link at the top of each article and blog post allows you to publish what you like to Facebook, Twitter, and a number of other social networking applications.
We are very excited about the changes and how they will improve your viewing experience. Any time we do site maintenance, though, readers inevitably run into bugs that we haven't noticed yet. If you encounter one of these -- a broken link, a blank article -- please inform us, including as much information as possible at feedback@patrolmag.com. Screenshots are most helpful, along with information about what browser and operating system you are using.
More changes, both functional and cosmetic are in the works. Feel free to post suggestions and requests in the comments!
